G.E.M. Health Care Agency is a home care program licensed by the New York State Department of Health. Our agency is owned and operated by registered nurses with years of experience in home care and skilled care. We provide home care services to patients in the following counties:

  • Nassau
  • Suffolk
  • Queens
  • Westchester

We are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organization. G.E.M. provides your home care needs with Personal Care Aides, Home Health Aides, Homemakers and Companions who are supervised by licensed professional nurses.

Our Story

G. E. M. Health Care Agency was established in 1989 with the intent of providing a service that was notably needed in our community. As a fledgling company, we learned early on that meeting our customers’ expectations through the development of quality service, reasonable prices, and on-time delivery would be the keys to our success.

In 1998, we reached a significant milestone in our history by occupying a larger facility and expanding our operations to nearly double that of our 1989 capacity. The expansion enabled us to add more staff to our growing number through our onsite training program, which is approved by the New York State Department of Health. This enables us to meet our industry demand.

Over the years, we have forged strong bonds with our customers through mutual respect and exceeding their expectations. As we continue our growth into the 21st century, we do so with the knowledge and appreciation of our customers and employees.

Administrative Team

Phyllis WellingtonPhyllis Wellington

Phyllis Wellington is the President and founder of G.E.M. Health Care Agency. As the founder in 1989, she has been an integral part of the Agency’s growth and an industry leader for over 25 years. She assumes overall responsibility for administrative and leadership functions, supervision of the organization and functions as head of the Board of Directors.

 

Ms. Wellington plans, organizes, directs and evaluates operations of the Agency to ensure that adequate and appropriate care services are in place. She also over sees that the Agency is in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulatory agencies. As a licensed Registered Nurse, she directly supervises the Agency’s professional nursing staff.

 

Prior to and while founding the Agency she worked as a clinical and administrative supervisor for a major hospital in New York City for over 25 years.

 

Ms. Wellington holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration.

Karen WorkmanKaren Workman

Karen Workman is the Operations Manager at G.E.M. Health Care Agency. Ms. Workman is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Agency. She also oversees the overall financial management including, accounts payable and receivable, employee payroll, managing human resources, assist in formulating some of the Agency policies, and other administrative duties.

 

Before joining G.E.M. Health Care in 1998, Ms. Workman worked for over 10 years for a major hospitality chain managing the food service division of a local hospital in the New York City area.

 

Ms. Workman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from The New York Institute of Technology.

Mark WorkmanMark Wellington

Mark Wellington is the Compliance Officer at G.E.M. Health Care Agency and is involved in making sure that all policies and procedures of the Agency are being accurately maintained and organized. He is also responsible for ensuring that the company complies with its outside regulatory requirements and internal policies.

 

Before joining G.E.M. Health Care in 2001, Mr. Wellington worked as a financial project manager for a major financial institution in New York City providing compliance, leadership and support regarding internal control issues.

 

Mr. Wellington holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the State University of New York.
